Overview
The i-290 is the smaller of Isuzu's two i-series trucks. For 2008, it features a 100-pound boost in towing capacity and the exit of the LS optional package. The i-290 is available only in the extended-cab version, with two-wheel drive and heavy-duty suspension.
Powertrain And Performance
The i-290 is equipped with a 185-horsepower, 2.9-liter, four-cylinder engine, and has a payload rating greater than 1,500 pounds. A choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission is offered. The i-290 comes only as an extended cab with rear-wheel drive.
Build And Styling
The i-290 looks similar to GM's Colorado and Canyon, and wears a prominent grille that is more in keeping with its workhorse leanings. Equipped with aluminum wheels and 15-inch tires, solid build quality and generous 72.8-inch cargo bed, the i-290 is a pickup that is both versatile and strong. The cabin is comfortable and spacious, with room for up to five passengers. A two-tiered tailgate allows for flexible loading options, while storage compartments are neatly concealed to maximize space. Radiant orange metallic, midnight metallic and cool slate metallic are the available color choices for 2008.
